Police ChiefPatti Jackson
Throughout my career — whether leading Corrections, Patrol Operations, or broader agency efforts across the Tacoma Police Department — I have focused on accountability, integrity, and strengthening the people who serve with selfless dedication every day. After more than 35 years in law enforcement, stepping up to serve as the Chief of the Tacoma Police Department isn’t about chasing a title — it’s about answering the call when leadership is needed most.
As a law enforcement professional, I am committed to promoting the wellness, resilience, and professionalism of our personnel. Why? Because when we invest in our people, we become even stronger in the service we provide to our community. My colleagues and I care about our neighbors across the city of Tacoma and are innovating to better serve them with integrity and respect.
It’s an honor to stand with the dedicated men and women of the Tacoma Police Department as we move forward together — leading with purpose, building trust, and always keeping our focus where it belongs: on those we serve.

About the Tacoma Police Department
Our department is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), which only two percent of agencies nationwide hold. With this accreditation, the department’s policies, procedures, management, operations, and support services are routinely assessed to ensure the highest standards of contemporary law enforcement are being met.
In March 2023, the Tacoma Police Department introduced CALEA’s public comment portal. The purpose of this portal is for CALEA to receive public comments regarding the Tacoma Police Department’s compliance with CALEA standards, community engagement, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. CALEA will use these comments to provide information to the department to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.

Tacoma Police Department’s CALEA Public Comment Portal
Tacoma, Wash. – In March 2023, the Tacoma Police Department introduced the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) public comment portal. As an accredited Police Department through CALEA, the department ...undergoes regular assessments of its policies, procedures, management, operations, and support services to uphold the highest standards of contemporary law enforcement. Only 3 percent of police agencies nationwide hold this esteemed recognition of professional excellence.
The portal's primary function is to facilitate public feedback on the Tacoma Police Department’s adherence to CALEA standards, engagement with the community, provision of public safety services, and overall eligibility for accredited status. Comments may include commendations or concerns, and CALEA will utilize them to inform the department's continuous improvement efforts and promote the pursuit of professional excellence.
The public can access the portal through the City of Tacoma’s website ( https://tacoma.gov/government/departments/police/ ) or directly via the CALEA website ( https://cimrs2.calea.org/40 ).
CALEA accreditation plays a vital role in reinforcing the department’s commitment to excellence in service to all who live, work, and visit Tacoma.

Thank you, Kwabi, for the opportunity to sit down and connect with the leadership of the Black Panther Party.
Progress looks like showing up, having real conversations, and being willing to listen. Public safety works best when it’s done with a community, not to a community. This is part... of that work.

Suspect Arrested, Stolen Trailer and Property Recovered in Tacoma Vehicle Theft Investigation
Tacoma, Wash. – On January 30, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a Community Service Officer (CSO) with the Tacoma Police Department was dispatched to the 7000 block of South Lawrence ...Street for a report of a motor vehicle theft.
Upon arrival, the CSO met with the victim, who reported their truck and attached cargo trailer had been stolen overnight. The victim stated the vehicles contained nearly all of their personal belongings, as they had recently moved to Washington from out of state for a new job. In an effort to prevent theft, the victim had removed the vehicle battery; however, this did not deter the suspect.
In the weeks following the theft, the victim began locating items believed to be their stolen property listed for sale online and provided this information to the police. Detectives were assigned to the case and, through their investigation, identified a suspect.
On March 30, 2026, detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. That afternoon, the warrant was served, and one adult male was taken into custody. He was booked into the Pierce County Jail on charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Trafficking in Stolen Property in the First Degree, and Possession of Stolen Property in the First Degree.
As a result of the investigation, the victim was able to recover a significant portion of their stolen property, including the cargo trailer.
The investigation remains ongoing.
