Looking to clear out clutter without filling up the landfill? Beyond the Bin is a new series of free reuse events from the City of Tacoma’s Solid Waste Management team. Bring your usable items to the Tacoma Recovery & Transfer Center and donate them to local nonprofit partners who will repair, repurpose, and redistribute them back into the community. It’s a simple way to reduce waste, support neighbors, and keep valuable materials in use.

Free Community Reuse Events

The City of Tacoma’s Solid Waste Management team is excited to launch Beyond the Bin, a new series of free community reuse events happening every second and fourth Saturday, May through September 2025.

Instead of sending your unwanted (but usable) items to the landfill, bring them to our Beyond the Bin collection events and give them a second life. Your donations will go to local nonprofit partners who repair, repurpose, and redistribute them back into the community, helping neighbors and reducing waste.

Schedule of Events

All events will take place at the Tacoma Recovery & Transfer Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Beyond the Bin Matters

These events are more than just donation drop-offs—they’re part of a larger effort to reduce waste, support our community, and protect the environment. Here’s what we’re working toward:

  • Provide community members with a convenient “one-stop shop” for safe, responsible disposal, recycling, and reuse.
  • Divert more reusable materials away from the landfill.
  • Recirculate valuable items back into the community.
  • Build strong partnerships with local and regional organizations leading in waste reduction.
