Off-Street Parking Rates
Downtown Off-Street Parking Updates
Changes Coming to Downtown Public Parking Facilities on July 1, 2026
Starting July 1, 2026, the City of Tacoma will update rates at its downtown parking garages and lots. Â
Why We’re Making Changes
Downtown offers a variety of parking options to meet different needs. These changes help connect longer visits with available garage and lot parking while supporting convenient access to downtown businesses and destinations.Â
The new pricing changes is designed to make parking pricing easier to understand and provide a cost-effective option for people spending several hours downtown.Â
How We’re Doing It
Beginning July 1, 2026, the City is updating rates at its downtown public parking garages and lots.  The new pricing structure lowers the daily maximum ate and introduces a simpler hourly rate schedule designed to provide a better value for longer stays.Â
By making public garages and lots a more attractive option for longer visits, the City can better match parking options to different needs and improve access throughout downtown.Â

Parking Facility Information and Customer Support:
-
Public garages and lots are designed to accommodate longer visits, employees, and all-day parking. Lowering the daily maximum helps make those facilities a more attractive option while preserving convenient curbside parking choices for a variety of downtown needs.Â
-
The City uses parking studies and community input to help guide parking decisions. These changes were developed using data from downtown parking occupancy studies and recommendations from the Parking Technical Advisory Group (PTAG) to help improve access and make better use of available parking throughout downtown.Â
-
That’s one of the goals. Downtown has more parking available than many people realize. By making garages and lots a better value for longer visits, we hope more people will choose those options and make better use of the parking that’s already available.Â
-
There is already a significant amount of parking available downtown. The challenge is often not the number of spaces, but how they are being used. These changes are designed to help make better use of existing parking options and provide more choices for different types of visits.Â
-
The City manages parking using a performance-based, data-driven approach. We regularly monitor how parking is being used throughout downtown and evaluate key performance measures such as occupancy, availability, and parking trends. This information, combined with feedback from customers, businesses, and the community, helps guide future decisions and continuous improvements to the parking system.Â
-
It depends on the type of visit you’re making. If you’re planning to spend several hours downtown, a public garage or lot may offer a better value and more parking availability. On-street parking is often best suited for shorter visits, such as picking up food, running errands, attending an appointment, or making a quick stop at a local business.Â
-
Payment instructions are posted throughout each facility. Customers can pay at a pay station using the City’s Pay by Plate system or through the Flowbird mobile app. Simply park, note your license plate number, and follow the posted payment instructions.Â
