
Engineering
The Public Works Engineering Division is responsible for program management and engineering expertise for transportation and capital facilities projects, including roadways, active transportation facilities, bridges, safe routes to schools, safety, facilities, and overwater esplanade and shoreline protection projects.
Program areas include engineering and design, City surveying practices, bridge operation and maintenance, project management, permitting, construction inspection and management, asset management, grant coordination and finance, Local Improvement Districts, development of engineering standards, unfit/unsafe sidewalks, and enforcing compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
​​​​​​​The Engineering Division also works in coordination with and provides support services as needed for other Departments, Divisions and Agencies including Transportation, Street Operations, Facilities, Planning and Development Services, Neighborhood and Community Services, Community and Economic Development, Environmental Services, Tacoma Water, Tacoma Power, WSDOT, Parks Tacoma, Pierce Transit, Sound Transit, and others.
