Environmental Services Commission
The Environmental Services Commission (ESC) provides recommendations to the City Council, City Manager, and Environmental Services staff on wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste rates. The commission also advises the Environmental Services director on services, policies, and programs.
2026 Update: The Environmental Services Commission will be pausing regular meetings.
Environmental Services is using this time to reflect on the future role of the Commission, review its Charter and Bylaws, and align the Commission’s purpose with upcoming departmental strategic planning efforts in early 2026. This pause also allows time to develop a thoughtful recruitment strategy to re-establish a full, engaged Commission.
We sincerely thank current and past Commissioners for their time, service, and commitment to supporting healthy neighborhoods and a thriving Puget Sound. Updates will be shared on this page as they become available.

The ESC consists of 15 members—13 voting and two ex-officio non-voting members—appointed by the City Manager. Members represent a diverse cross-section of Tacoma, including large and small businesses, developers, government entities, and residential groups.
