The City of Tacoma’s Street Operations Division will close the Lincoln Avenue Bridge to all traffic on Saturday, April 18. The closure will be in effect from 6 a.m. to approximately 6 p.m. to allow crews to perform necessary asphalt repairs near Stewart Street.
This work marks the second and final day of a two-day road construction project utilizing funds from the Tacoma Streets Initiative. The Tacoma Streets Initiative — a 10-year, $325 million voter-approved funding program adopted in November 2015 to address critical infrastructure needs — has expired.
During the 12-hour construction window, the bridge spanning the Puyallup River will be fully closed to vehicles, and marked detour routes will be in place to safely guide drivers. Access to local businesses will be strictly maintained throughout the closure. However, travelers will need to plan their routes carefully, approaching from either Portland Avenue or Port of Tacoma Road depending on which side of the river their destination is located.
This construction project is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions require it. Any updates or changes to the planned schedule will be communicated to the public through pre-construction signage and future notices.
Residents or business owners with questions regarding the road closure can contact Project Supervisor Thomas Adams at tadams@tacoma.gov or (253) 591-5870.
