As part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure, the City of Tacoma’s Public Works Department will conduct essential asphalt repairs on Proctor Street from April 6 – 10. During this time, Proctor Street will be closed from North 21st Street to 6th Avenue between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily, weather permitting. This time-sensitive work will correct surface imperfections, preparing the roadway for a brand-new surface.
This work, conducted by the Public Works Department’s Street Operations Division, is a major maintenance project utilizing funds from the Tacoma Streets Initiative. Adopted in November 2015, the Tacoma Streets Initiative was a 10-year, $325 million voter-approved funding program designed to address critical infrastructure needs across the city. The levy officially expired on December 31, 2025.
While this work is being conducted, there will be limited local access and no through traffic permitted. Community members are encouraged to plan ahead, using alternate routes to navigate around the work zone, and abide by all temporary no-parking signs placed within the project area to help ensure this work can be completed safely and efficiently.
Community members with questions about this work can contact Street Maintenance Supervisor Sean Probst at sprobst@tacoma.gov or (253) 591-5495.
