The City of Tacoma’s Public Works Department will close a section of Lincoln Avenue, including the Lincoln Avenue Bridge, on Saturday, April 4, 2026 to accommodate large-scale asphalt repairs. The closure will span from Portland Avenue to Marc Avenue and is scheduled to last from 6 a.m. to approximately 6 p.m.

This work, conducted by the Public Works Department’s Street Operations Division, is a major maintenance project utilizing funds from the Tacoma Streets Initiative. The Tacoma Streets Initiative was a 10-year, $325 million voter-approved funding program adopted in November 2015 to address critical infrastructure needs. The levy expired on December 31, 2025.

During construction hours, the Lincoln Avenue Bridge will be fully closed to all vehicle traffic, and detour routes will be implemented.

While through-traffic will be blocked, access to local businesses will be maintained throughout the day.

Travelers attempting to reach locations near the construction zone will need to approach from either Portland Avenue or the Port of Tacoma Road, depending on which side of the Puyallup River their destination is located.

This work represents the first phase of a two-day project. The second phase of repairs will occur on a separate Saturday, which will be announced at a future date.

Because asphalt application requires specific environmental conditions, this work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary. Any updates or schedule changes will be provided on the City’s website and social media platforms, as well as pre-construction signage in the area.

Residents or business owners with questions regarding the road closure can contact Project Supervisor Thomas Adams at tadams@tacoma.gov or (253) 591-5870.
