Partners across Tacoma-Pierce County are celebrating Bike Month with events and activities – we hope you’ll join the fun! April 9 – April 23 at noon
E-Bike Rebate Pilot Program
Organizer: WSDOT & City of Tacoma
Pre-registration required? Yes, application required to be eligible for chance of an instant rebate.
Important Details: This program is not first-come, first-served. Anyone who is eligible and applies before the deadline will have an equal chance at being selected.
Event Description:  Kick off Bike Month by applying for an e-bike rebate! Depending on your household income – you could be eligible for a $300 or $1,200 rebate. The City of Tacoma has worked closely with WSDOT to align our local e-bike rebates with the statewide program, to make applying as simple as possible. There’s one application for both programs – just apply once, and you’ll be automatically entered into one or both programs based on your eligibility.

14th Annual Bike Swap

Important Details: Helmets are required to ride on the Bike Skills course
Event Description: The 14th Annual Pierce County Bike Swap is a FREE family-friendly community event put on by Ride Together Pierce, where anyone can sell or buy used bicycles and bicycle parts. The event will have activities for all ages! We encourage you to bring a helmet if you plan on test-riding bikes.

City of Tacoma Bike Month Proclamation

Event Description: Join Mayor Woodards and Tacoma City Council for their annual proclamation celebrating Bike Month! The proclamation recognizes the benefits of bicycling for our community, reiterates the City of Tacoma’s support for increasing bicycling safety and achieving Vision Zero, and recognizes the City’s goal to build a community where all people can safely ride!

Bike Everywhere Challenge
Location: Countywide

Organizer: Ride Together Pierce

Event Cost: Free
Event Description: Ride Together Pierce is hosting the Bike Everywhere Challenge, May 1-31, encouraging folks to log their bicycle trips on the trip calendar at RideTogetherPierce.com. You can participate as an individual or form a bike team with your friends or coworkers. Those who take and log at least 10 bike trips in the trip calendar are automatically entered to win prizes, including gift cards for individuals, and a pizza party for the top performing bike teams. To join the Bike Everywhere Challenge, create an account or login to the trip calendar and log your bike trips during May. Log your bike trips before June 6 to qualify for prizes!

Event Cost: This is a fundraiser for 2nd Cycle, helping us continue our work supporting Tacoma’s bike community. Suggested cover at the door, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Event Description: A night of storytelling, community, and all things bikes! Join us for an evening of bike-inspired storytelling! Hear tales of adventure, connection, and the joy of life on two wheels. Want to share your own story? Step up to the open mic and tell us what bike love means to you. Open Mic – all are welcome to share! Come for the stories, stay for the community!

National Bike & Roll to School Day
Location: Various Tacoma Public Schools
Event Description: Schools across the country will celebrate biking, walking, and actively rolling to school on May 7, 2025 and throughout the month. Bike, walk, scoot, or skate to school in May from home or by parking a few blocks away from school. Plan a celebration with your school using posters, promotions, and incentives. Tacoma Social Justice Tour

Event Description: Join us for a powerful and engaging ride through Tacoma’s history and ongoing social justice movements. This 2-3 hour guided tour will start at 2nd Cycle and take participants through Hilltop, downtown Tacoma, and the Chinese Reconciliation Park before returning to 2nd Cycle. Along the way, we’ll make a dozen stops, each featuring brief but impactful storytelling moments that highlight Tacoma’s rich and complex history of resilience, activism, and community strength. This is more than just a ride—it’s an opportunity to connect, learn, and reflect. This will be a slow and social ride we will be riding approximately 5 miles. This ride will be hosted by Richard Woo and Lyle Quasim.

BIKE IN Volunteer Foothills Trail Work Party – Pitch in for Parks

Event Description: Meet us at the East Puyallup Trailhead and bike to Alderton to learn the basics of trail stewardship while helping to improve the safety and look of the Foothills National Recreation Trail!

Bicycle Family Storytime at South Tacoma Library

Event Description: Join us for a fun-filled, bicycle-themed Music and Movement Storytime at the South Tacoma Library! Families with young children are invited to sing, dance, and listen to stories celebrating bikes and the joy of riding. This engaging 30-minute program is perfect for preschoolers and their caregivers. Thursday, May 15, 10:30-11 a.m. Let’s pedal into story time together!

Bike Everywhere Day

Event Description: On May 16th we welcome everyone who rides a bike in Tacoma to join us near Wright Park between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to enjoy treats, snag some safety gear, and get excited about biking. Whether you bike to work, school, the grocery store, restaurant or bar, wherever – we want to champion you! Complimentary basic bike tune ups provided by Opalescent Cyclery and free helmets provided by the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. Swing by during your lunch break!

Destiny Dozen

Event Cost: This is a fundraiser for 2nd Cycle, helping us continue our work supporting Tacoma’s bike community. Suggested cover at the door, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Three available options: fast, fun, and views only.
Event Description:  The Destiny Dozen is a fundraiser for Second Cycle that will take you roughly 40 miles around Tacoma, going up 13 of our toughest hills from Fairbanks to Owen Beach, climbing 4200 feet. There are three available ride options: fast, fun and views only. The new Views Only option offers a unique perspective for participants who prefer a more leisurely experience or want to cheer on fellow riders. This scenic tour spans the first 10 hills of our main route, providing breathtaking views and opportunities to support our cyclists as they conquer the ascent. Additionally, it serves as a safety net for those who may need assistance or decide not to complete the full journey after reaching the hilltops. Our Sag Wagon will be on standby to provide support whenever needed.

Bike Bingo

Event Description: Join us from May 19 to May 30 for a BINGO across Tacoma! Complete activities, see some sights, and practice riding around town to complete a bingo and be entered to win a bike prize pack. Turn in a photo or scan of your completed bingo card to timothyc@downtownonthego.org by May 30 or visit team DOTG at the Broadway Farmers Market on May 29 to drop off a physical copy.

Family Story Time with Author Mary Boone

Important Details: Helmets are required to ride. The route will be 3–5 miles at a relaxed pace of 5–10 mph.
Event Description: Join us for a family-friendly ride through Swan Creek! Kidical Mass is designed for all ages and skill levels—whether you’re a little one on training wheels or a parent pulling a trailer, you’re welcome here. We’ll explore the trails together at a comfortable pace with a focus on fun, safety, and community.

Event Description: Celebrate Bike Month by cycling to the Downtown Farmers Market on May 30 (10 a.m.-2 p.m., on Broadway between S. 9th and St. 11th)! Visit the Downtown On the Go booth to get more information about bike resources as well as details for the events we have planned for the summer. We will have free helmets available for anyone who stops by, provided by the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, and a special reward for people who bike to the market – to be announced! You can also turn in your Bike Bingo card!

Peninsula Metric Century
Location: War Memorial Park by Narrows Bridge
Time: 9 a.m.
Organizer: Tacoma Washington Bicycle Club (TWBC)
Pre-registration required? Yes
Event Cost: TWBC membership is required ($30/year)
Event Description: Short and long routes available for this hilly ride – pizza will be provided afterwards. You should be familiar with using Ride with GPS for directions or ride with a friend or a leader.
