About Mayor Anders Ibsen
Mayor Anders Ibsen is a lifelong Tacoman focused on public safety, housing stability, and growing a resilient, living-wage economy for working families.
Elected to public office at 22, Anders began his service on the Pierce Conservation District Board of Supervisors before serving two terms on the Tacoma City Council representing District 1. During his time on Council, he helped secure public safety funding, improve budget transparency, and advance policies including paid sick and safe leave, public broadband expansion, electric vehicle incentives, and the Tacoma Anchor Network for local economic development.
As Mayor, Anders is committed to bold, inclusive solutions—advancing Tacoma’s role in the Unified Regional Approach to Homelessness, strengthening police and fire services, and building on the City’s Green Economic Development Strategy.
A graduate of Tacoma Public Schools and The Evergreen State College, Anders is also a longtime realtor, home appraiser, and managing broker, and has served on nonprofit boards supporting the environment, education, and the arts.
Outside of City Hall, he enjoys running with Tacoma Runners, a good book, and spending time in Tacoma’s green spaces with his family.
