Background
I’m Sandesh Sadalge, your District 4 Council Member. I’m honored to represent much of East Tacoma and the South End since July of 2024, when I was appointed to fulfill the remainder of former Council Member Catherine Ushka’s term. I first involved in community service as a steering committee member on the City’s award-winning McKinley Hill Neighborhood Plan and later as the District 4 representative on the City’s Planning Commission. I love living in the McKinley Hill neighborhood with my wife Maya, where we raise our son. Born in India, my family and I moved to America when I was six years old. Like many District 4 residents, I grew up in a household whose first language was not English. In college, I chose to become a U.S. citizen. As a Council Member, I aim to build and strengthen relationships with my multi-lingual and immigrant neighbors.
I bring over 20 years of experience in the private sector, primarily in finance and data analytics. My wife and I moved to Tacoma to relaunch and operate a small business and my wife now owns and operates a home-based craft business of her own. My professional experience has helped me navigate the complexities of difficult policy decisions that affect the lives of every resident of our city.
In 2025, I decided to run for office because, though this is a difficult job, it’s one that I’ve found true meaning and fulfillment in doing. I’m proud that voters of District 4 have given me this opportunity to continue to build on my accomplishments. I’m most passionate about working to:
- Tacoma works within our legal authority to defend our democracy and protect due process rights for every resident.
- Provide compassionate care for our most at-need residents by listening directly to homeless services providers and collaborating with our neighboring jurisdictions through the Unified Regional Approach for Homelessness to expand services.
- Protect youth and children though data-driven solutions that address the root causes of youth violence, with a specific focus on gun violence to prevent the tragic deaths seen too often across the nation, including Tacoma.
- Continue to be a housing champion by crafting creative policy updates that reduce displacement and increase housing supply in Tacoma for low- and moderate-income families, with a special emphasis on adding new homeownership housing stock.
What I love most about this role is connecting with individuals and organization in my District and across Tacoma. I’m proud to have helped hundreds of my neighbors with all sorts of issues.  If you want to talk to me about an issue facing you or just to invite me to an event you’re hosting, please reach out to me directly via email or my direct phone/text at (253) 355-1276.
