Sandesh Sadalge was officially sworn in as the District 4 Tacoma City Council Member by Speaker Laurie Jinkins for his first full term. Council Member Sadalge is the first South Asian to serve on the City Council. He was appointed to the position in July 2024, and elected to the position by the voters in 2025.

“I found true meaning and fulfillment in doing this job over the past year and a half, so I am deeply grateful to the residents of District 4 for placing their trust in me for the next four years,” said Council Member Sadalge. “My work will continue to be guided by the voices and stories of those I represent. I look forward to working with my City Council colleagues to advance shared goals, strengthen our communities and improve quality of life across the city.”

Council Member Sadalge’s priorities for his term include ensuring the City of Tacoma works within its legal authority to defend our democracy and protect due process rights for every resident; providing compassionate care for individuals experiencing homelessness and collaborating with our neighboring jurisdictions to address homelessness; protecting youth and children though data-driven solutions that help address the root causes of violence; and championing policies to increase home ownership opportunities for all Tacomans.

“I’m excited to join Council Member Sadalge as he is sworn in for another term,” said Mayor Ibsen. “Tacoma is rich in diversity, and Council Member Sadalge’s perspective as a South Asian immigrant is critical to connecting with the many multi-lingual and immigrant residents in District 4. His leadership on expanding homeownership opportunities as a champion of the Home in Tacoma conversations have helped shape important progress for our city. I look forward to continuing our work together to build on those successes for the good of our city.”

Council Member Sadalge lives in the McKinley Hill Neighborhood with his wife Maya where they raise their son. With over 20 years of experience in the private sector, with a focus on finance and data analytics, Council Member Sadalge and his wife helped relaunch and operate a small manufacturing business in Tacoma that employed up to 25 individuals. His wife now owns and operates a home-based craft business in Tacoma.

He was first involved in community service as a steering committee member on the City’s award-winning McKinley Hill Neighborhood Plan and later as the District 4 representative on the City’s Planning Commission. He serves on the Council’s Infrastructure Planning and Sustainability Committee and Government Performance and Finance Committee. He also serves on the executive board advancing Pierce County’s Unified Regional Approach for Homelessness.
