The City of Tacoma has launched a new driver safety campaign aimed at reducing crashes and improving safety for people walking, rolling, and biking across the region. Funded by a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, the campaign supports Vision Zero and Safe Routes to School goals through education, outreach, and positive, action-oriented messaging.
The campaign tagline – “You could save a life” – underscores how everyday driving choices can prevent serious injuries and traffic fatalities. It highlights simple, actionable steps drivers can take each day to help support safer streets. Messages are being posted weekly on Facebook and Instagram now through March 18, 2026. Weekly topics include not blocking crosswalks, giving bicyclists at least three feet of space, stopping for school buses, and driving safer speeds in residential areas and school zones.
The cities of Puyallup, University Place, and Fircrest have joined the campaign to amplify reach and promote consistent safety messaging across the region. This multi-jurisdiction partnership is part of a collective effort to reduce barriers to active transportation use, with grant funding from the Puget Sound Regional Council.
