The City of Tacoma wants to work with you and the community to address the issue of abandoned vehicles on city streets. We know these cars can be dangerous for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. By joining forces, we can make our streets safer and cleaner for everyone.

If you are concerned about an abandoned vehicle, contact Tacoma FIRST 311 by submitting an Abandoned Vehicle on Street form, using the app, dialing 311 within Tacoma city limits, or calling (253) 591-5000 from anywhere else.

What is an Abandoned Vehicle?

A vehicle is considered abandoned if it remains on a city street for an extended period and meets any of the following criteria:

  • It hasn’t been moved for a long time.
  • It is unused or inoperable.
  • It is in disrepair.
  • It is missing major parts.
  • It has expired or no license plates.

What about Abandoned Vehicles on Private Property?

The City cannot remove abandoned or inoperable vehicles on private property, which is the property owner’s responsibility. If you have an abandoned or unwanted vehicle on your property that you have had no affiliation with, submit a Washington State Department of Licensing Junk Vehicle Affidavit. Once your form is complete, contact Road Use Enforcement to schedule a meeting time for an officer to inspect the vehicle for the required criteria and sign your form.

The City does not provide removal service; private contractors of the property owner’s choosing perform the removal.

Report an Abandoned Vehicle

If you would like to report an abandoned vehicle on a city street, has one of the conditions listed above, and is not on private property, contact Tacoma FIRST 311 and submit an Abandoned Vehicles on Street form.
