For #throwbackthursday, we bring you found footage of TFD crews fighting a house fire and resuscitating a cat near South 46th St and South K St on August 5, 1987.

While fire crews battled the house fire, rescue crews helped a furry occupant who had inhaled too much smoke.

Even ...today, if we find a household pet in a fire who isn’t badly burned, we can use a specialized pet mask to give them oxygen. For pets and people who have inhaled too much smoke, this pressurized oxygen helps clear carbon monoxide from the bloodstream and gives them a better chance to recover.

Today was TFD Recruit Class 2025-2’s last day of firefighter training as a group. They begin 6-months of field training next week.

Today’s inaugural Citywide run helped the recruits learn more about our city. The run totaled approximately 20 miles, but the recruits each ran 8 miles in... smaller companies. The resting recruits enjoyed racing ahead and cheering on their classmates! Your cheering and honking also kept these recruits energized!

They’re ready to spend the next 6 months working alongside our veteran firefighters and responding to emergency calls.
