The City of Tacoma has exclusive authority over all solid waste collection, management, and disposal within city limits (TMC 12.09.020), and the collection, removal, processing, and disposal of solid and infectious waste—including recyclables—by anyone other than City personnel or equipment is regulated (TMC 12.09, 070). In certain situations where the City cannot provide necessary services, a Special Permit program is available to accommodate these needs.

Transporting waste requires a special hauling permit, and applications are reviewed within 30 days. Please review the guidelines below and then complete your application for a special permit.
