Port of Tacoma
The Port of Tacoma is among the largest deepwater container ports in North America. More than 70% of its international cargo emanates from or is delivered to the central and eastern parts of the U.S. The Port also handles about 80% of the marine cargo between Alaska and the Lower 48 states.
Operated by the Port, the 2,235-acre Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) #86 ranked third among the 35 West Coast FTZs and 18 out of 272 in the U.S. in 2010 based on the dollar value of foreign merchandise processed. More than $1.3 billion of goods and merchandise moved through FTZ #86. The top five trading partners include China/Hong Kong, Japan, Alaska, South Korea, and Taiwan. The Port offers more than 150 acres of industrial land to support maritime transportation activities and business development. In addition, it provides facilities for manufacturing, assembly, warehousing, and distribution.
