
Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority Board
Establishment
The City of Tacoma is a participant in several federal grant programs offered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Economic Development Administration (EDA). The Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority (TCRA) is a public corporation whose support enhances the City’s efficiency and service provision in administering activities funded by HUD’s Community Development Block Grants, HOME Investment Partnership Program, and the EDA’s Title IX Revolving Loan Fund.
Among the goals of the TCRA are to:
- Rebuild or revitalize blighted areas
- Develop housing programs; including home rehabilitation, counseling, and maintenance training services
- Expand housing, job and income opportunities
- Improve access between homes and jobs
- Stimulate economic development, and
- Enhance cultural, recreational and educational facilities and opportunities
Membership
The Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority Board consists of at least ten members who are appointed by the Mayor and City Council. The membership term is two (2) years. Composition of membership includes two (2) lawyers, two (2) bankers, two (2) individuals experienced in housing development or contraction, two (2) certified public accounts, two (2) real estate brokers or agents, and two (2) at-large positions.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Board administers grants and loans to a variety of clients such as low-income households and families who need help in buying or repairing their homes, multi-family housing developers or owners who provide housing to low-income families, businesses which create jobs or rehabilitate blighted buildings, and non-profit organizations that provide housing and economic development services to the Tacoma community.
