City Council Study Session

The City of Tacoma operates under a Council-Manager form of government. City Council Members are comprised of a Mayor and eight Council Members (five Councilmanic districts and three at-large) elected to serve four-year terms. As the policy-making body of the City, the City Council serves as the link between the residents of Tacoma and their municipal government. They are responsible for enacting and amending City laws, adopting the Biennial Budget, appointing members to our boards, committees, and commissions, and providing guidance and direction for actions that affect the quality of life in the City.
Study sessions are more informal gatherings for in-depth discussion and exploration of complex topics without taking any official action. Hybrid sessions are held every Tuesday from 12 Noon – 2 p.m. City Council members and the public can participate in the monthly Zoom meeting virtually, by phone, or in person at the Tacoma Municipal Building in the Council Chambers. The sessions air live on TV Tacoma, tvtacoma.com, and stream live on the City Council Meetings web page.
