The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking applicants to fill 17 positions on the City’s Local Employment and Apprenticeship Training Program (LEAP) Advisory Committee. The 21-member committee membership should be comprised of (3) three representatives from each of the following (7) seven constituencies:
- Residents of Tacoma
- Construction companies doing business with Tacoma
- Members of organized labor
- Community-based organizations
- City staff
- Educational institutions
- Puyallup Tribe
Committee members bring a range of perspectives and expertise that focus on the City’s commitment to provide local residents opportunities to access training and employment on City-funded public work and improvement projects. The Local Employment and Apprenticeship Training Program aims to level the playing field with training, resources, and employment opportunities so that more citizens can earn better wages.
The LEAP Advisory Committee serves as an advisory committee to review the Local Employment and Apprenticeship Training Program (LEAP) and recommend policy changes as appropriate, specifically regarding the methodology of determining the appropriate adjustments to LEAP utilization requirements.

Appointed applicants are required to complete Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act trainings provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General, within 90 days of being appointed to a committee, board, or commission.
