TACOMA, Wash. — The City of Tacoma’s Planning & Development Services Department is inviting community members to learn about and weigh in on the codes that shape how Tacoma looks, feels, and functions in the coming years.
To foster broader participation, transparency, and collaboration, the City is hosting an accessible, family-friendly information session at STAR Center (3873 S. 66th St. in Tacoma) on May 9, from 1 – 3 p.m., regarding proposed zoning and land use code updates under consideration pertaining to:
- Housing and Neighborhood Growth (2026 Annual Code Update): Rules concerning special needs housing, daycares, and McKinley pre-annexations
- Daily Commutes (Parking Code Update):Â Parking requirements that influence street congestion and pedestrian safety
- Environmental Health and Aesthetics (Tree Code Update and Critical Areas Code Update): How the City protects Tacoma’s natural landscape to support a healthy urban tree canopy, safeguard vulnerable ecosystems, and improve local air and water quality
Translation services — in Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese – will be available at this event. Refreshments will be provided. Families in attendance will receive free entrance to the Treetops children’s play area at STAR Center.
Community members unable to attend the event in person are invited to take an online survey.
