City Council Authorizes Mayor Victoria Woodards to Execute Employment Contract With Hyun Kim for Interim City Manager Appointment

On May 20, 2025, the City Council passed a motion authorizing Mayor Victoria Woodards to execute the proposed employment contract on file with the City Clerk’s Office for Hyun Kim’s appointment to Interim City Manager. Mr. Kim’s term as Interim City Manager is set to commence on June 30, 2025, and will terminate upon the appointment of a permanent City Manager or removal by the City Council.

Mr. Kim joined the City of Tacoma as a Deputy City Manager overseeing internal services functions in 2023. In a nationwide recruitment that produced a diverse and exceptional pool of candidates, his deep executive leadership experience in local government made him a top candidate for that position.

Prior to joining the City of Tacoma, Mr. Kim served as the City Administrator for the City of Gillette, Wyoming from 2021 – 2023. From 2017 – 2021, he served as the City Manager for the City of Fife.

Mr. Kim holds master’s degrees in Public Administration and Business Administration and is an International City/County Management Association Credentialed Manager.
