Fire Protection Systems Permits, Fees, and Licensing Requirements
The Fire Department reviews permits for the installation or modification of fire protection systems. Submit permit requests and calculate estimated fees through the tacomapermits.org portal links below.
Fire Protection License
All persons conducting business in Tacoma must have an Annual City of Tacoma Business License. Additionally, any business conducting work related to installing, maintaining, cleaning, or performing testing of fire suppression systems and appliances or fire alarm devices and equipment is required to obtain a State of Washington General or Specialty Contractor license and the City of Tacoma regulatory Fire Protection License, 6B.90. This is including but not limited to the following:
- Wet and dry sprinkler systems
- Hood and duct cleaning & suppression systems
- Hood and duct suppression systems
- Foam systems
- Clean agents
- Standpipe
- Underground fire main service
- Spray booth suppression systems
- Fire extinguisher service
- Fire Alarm Systems
