Mail – complete the City of Tacoma Business License Application, or if your business activity is only the rental of real property, please visit the rental business web page to find specific applications for single-family homes and multi-unit properties. Please allow up to 15 business days from the date you mailed the application to receive your license.
In Person – complete the City of Tacoma Business License Application. If your business only involves renting real property, please visit the rental business web page to find specific applications for single-family homes and multi-unit properties. Please allow up to one hour to process your application. Applications received after 4 p.m. will be accepted but may not be processed the same day.
The Tax & License office is located at 747 Market Street, Room 212, Tacoma, WA 98402. Parking is metered. Payment is due at time of application; cash, check, or credit cards are accepted.
General Contractors
All subcontractors working at a job site in Tacoma must also be licensed with the City of Tacoma. The Washington State business license is not a “blanket” license that eliminates the need for a local license. If any of your subcontractors do not have a City of Tacoma business license, have them apply for a city license before they start accruing penalties.
