At last night’s Council meeting, City Council authorized the collection of transportation impact fees from developers when they build something new. This move is expected to help generate an additional $16 million per year to help fund things new like sidewalks, bike lanes, and intersection ...improvements necessary to accommodate growth. Collection begins on June 1, 2026, and fees will help us create a safer, more connected transportation network.

Today is Human Rights Day and we’re very proud of Tacoma’s recent recognition form the Human Rights Campaign Foundation awarding us a high score of 93 out of 100 on their Municipal Equality Index. This measure examines equity and inclusivity practices in policy, law, and services. We will ...continue to work for a Tacoma where everyone feels safe and welcome, and if you’re interested in helping, consider applying to join our volunteer Human Rights Commission. This group of 15 studies, investigates, and mediates community issues that may result from discrimination. There are four openings and we’re seeking applications through December 15, 2025, at the link in our bio.
