Community Partnership

It has been an absolute pleasure partnering and volunteering alongside the BBC Fabric of Faith Prayer Quilt Ministry at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Over the years, this incredible group has joined the Tacoma Police Department in supporting youth and families across our ...community. Their efforts have included providing brown bag lunches for youth in need, delivering handmade quilts for babies in the NICU at St. Joseph Medical Center, and volunteering at our annual Kids Health and Safety Fair, “School Ready on Day 1.”

These dedicated women have created more than quilts. They have built a space rooted in fellowship, encouragement, and service to others. It may sound like a lot, and it is, but it all begins with a needle, thread, and a shared heart for the community.

Recently, Lieutenant Malott, Sergeant Meeds, and our Community Engagement Senior Manager Bervin Smith, had the opportunity to join one of their Thursday quilting gatherings. Continuing a now three-year tradition, our team brought Louisiana gumbo to share, and the quilters graciously kept everyone well supplied with desserts.

The Tacoma Police Department looks forward to many more opportunities to work alongside this wonderful group, and we fully intend to keep the February gumbo tradition going strong for years to come.
