Stewart Middle School Safe Routes to School

Project Overview

This project will improve safety and walkability in the vicinity of Stewart Middle School. Roadway construction will include road reconfigurations, traffic circles, speed humps, striping, signage, and parking restrictions near crossings. Pedestrian improvements will include curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalks, signal improvements, illumination, and ADA compliant curb ramps. Bicycle enhancements will include signal improvements, intersection crossing markings, and a new median diverter for multi-stage crossings at South 52nd Street and Pacific Avenue. Multimodal infrastructure improvements within the project include buffered sidewalk, and a shared-use path. Safe Routes to School walk or bike encouragement and safety education programs will complement the project by teaching students how to navigate and use the new safety infrastructure.
